Adèle Didelez & Solune Laurent

Solune Laurent :
Class name : Go deeper – M1

“Level required : Advanced”

Although aerial practice requires a certain amount of strength, it often happens that practitioners misuse it and tire themselves out unnecessarily due to a misunderstanding of their placement on the apparatus.

Staring from this observation we will approach various static figures and variations of possible entries or exits.

Then we will go through several forms of ballants before concentrating on the dynamic figures ( twists, salto, wheels, clock).

Adèle Didelez :

Class name : Explore – M3

“Level required : Intermediate”

This class is for people who are comfortable on the rope and want to depend their vocabulary. We will also work on the sequence of figures in order to explore our physicality and musicality on the rope.

Adèle Didelez :
Class name : Discover – M4

“Level required : Beginner”

This class is open to people who are new to the sport of rope skating or who know the basic moves. We will work on the basic moves and deepen our knowledge of techniques.

We will also discover how to find comfort in the movements and make the techniques your own.

Class name : Explore – M9

“Level required :  Beginner / Intermediate”

This class will focus on finding permanent movement on the fabric, working on “ways” to move in and out and turns/flips from one to the other. We will work on sequences, trying to build a harmonious flow of movement on the aerial tissues from independent blocks/pieces. We will also try to find new transitions and changes in and out to go beyond the usual moves, to update our movements on the material and avoid stereotypes. We will think of aerial dance on fabric in terms of  “movements” and not in terms of ” postures”. This brings a sense of connection and action with in the experience rather than isolation and regularity. Emphasis will also be placed on movement quality and precision of technique, as well as choreographic dynamic and expression.

This class will also have the objectives of answering the question “How do we move?” Many times we focus on what we do on any aerial apparatus. But ask yourself the questions, ” Why?” By working efficiently and in connection with your breath, avoiding unnecessary movement during transitions on aerial fabrics and connecting to the unceasing internal flow, we then find our natural and organic quality of movement.

Prerequisites for intermediate level aerial tissues: Good knowledge of basic tissue vocabulary, ability to climb and perform a foot lock, straddle up, hip ke..

Class name : Explore – M15

“Level required :  Intermediate”

This workshop will focus on technical work, choreographic methods and research, and the evolution of the students’ individual practice. We will explore tools and ideas for composing original movement sequences and phrases on an aerial apparatus, whiles focusing on the quality of our movement execution and breath work.

The workshop will address themes of organic movement quality and fluidity, supportive breathing patterns related to aerial movement techniques, the concept of movement spirals, and dance expression in the air. Working through various ideas of choreography, sequencing, and phrasing, we will look to see clear and logical connections between different envelopes and locks, while trying to break out of our stereotypes of movement, composition, and concept. The workshops will aim to deepen our already existing knowledge within the discipline and support our personal practice by finding a greater delicacy, sensitivity and awareness of what we are already used to when we move our bodies and minds, both on land and in the air”.

PREREQUISTE Intermediate : Good knowledge of basic aerial silks vocabulary ( footlocker, hip-key, some ascents, inversions). Ability to work comfortably in the air for at least 3 continuous minutes.

Tactile synthétiqueTethering: Synthetic Touch / Touch-in-Distance

“Creative workshop : All levels “

This research will explore the improvisation and somatic technique of tethering ( horizontal non-rigged fabrics) exploring touch-in-distance and synthethic touch with each other using the fabric as a conduit of touch. A complex interplay between a horizontal aerial fabric, various types of vertical rigged fabrics and the moving body, Thethering ( a practice I developed over the past 4 years ) explores corporeal and material perception within an embodied social network. Positioned in an unpredictable and ephemeral embodies gathering, we will entangle, suspend and support each other within a giant fabric loop also honing into the environment. The fabric acts as movement conduit between each participant, creating a responsive physical dialogue that is both distant and intimate, internal and external, receiving and giving. Bodies, fabrics, nature. Do trees touch back ? Tethering transforms the aerial fabric into an instrument that positions us to re-invent connection in our changing relationship with communication in a post-body era.

Class name : Create – M12

Alchemizing Pressure

“Creative Workshop : Biginner / Intermediate”

How and where does the fabric touch me and me it? For each moment, we will attend to how the fabrics are touching us and we them, practicing an on-going dynamic of consent stemming from théorie féministe, philosophy process philosophy and new materialism. This awareness tries to support a beneficial relationship with the fabrics, shifting our perspective and engagement with “material.” Slithery, pleasurable choreography will unfold through a technique on knotted vertical fabrics promoting the sensation of touch with the material. The juxtaposition and balance between set choreography and individual expression allows a nuanced and subtle emergent alchemy between our bodies. Aerial transitions, unique sling movement, suspension and weight-transfer using the fabric as a partner will be mediated, asking what PRESSURE is good right now.

Class name : Create – M13
Delighting in the Taboo

Creative Workshop : Intermediate / Advanced “

Playing on the realm of the impossible breaking habits and expanding what the fabrics and our bodies can DO, even under seemingly impossible conditions. What is our corporeality/fabreality? In this research course, we will engage props, task, and media interdisciplinary to expand how we artistically and physically engage with ” aerial fabrics” under the dangerous and taboo influence of certain performance arts.

Class name : Create – M14

Anarchiving Liminal Suspensions

Creative Workshop : All levels

Bringing somatic attention to aerial propositions that disorientate the practices of breath,”stillness,” discomfort, minimal movement on suspension as well as care, comfort, and radical body-concept positioning. We will play with media documentations such as corporeal archiving, photography and film to create an anarchies. What are the expectations of an aerial body and how does this work challenge how we exchange our work with a public.

Lévitation

“Creative Workshop : Biginner / Intermediate”

We will unearth the magical balance of levitating between the floor and air, guided by technical approaches to support us in hovering. We will lean a plurality of variations at different levels and orientations with the fabrics that enhances our dancing capabilities with vertical tissues from the ground using technique of gliding, suspending, levitating, wringing, and skimming. Honing our desire, sensation, practice and performativity of suspension. It will be a choreography-based, technique class.

Aerial Installations : Response-able Design

“Workshop : All level “

We will design aerial installations where we experiment in an ever-shifting architectural environnement. By creating feedback-loops with our environment, we question where the body and material co-create movements and worldings. Positioning fabrics in disorientating ways affect the body’s interactions and possibilities.

Chiara Zubiani

“Level required : Intermediate / Advanced”

This class will explore new figures and choreographic phrases on the fixed trapeze. It will allow participants to put their practice on the fixed trapeze into perspective and to integrate new forms into their practice. At the end of the session, improvisation proposals will conclude the class.

Class name : Create – M24

“Level required : All levels”

Aerial techniques require a great deal of concentration due to the inherent risk of falling. So how to enrich a discipline often confined to aesthetics? To let the emotions take place, I propose to open our eyes beyond the techniques, to offer a panel of emotions and unusual situations, which will stimulate our research.

During this workshop, I propose to address/infiltrate these 6 questions:
* How to approach your agreement
* Suspense or the art of rhythm
* The relationships to the outside word
* The fall
* The technical release

Class name : Explore – M25

“Niveau requis : Beginner / Intermediate”

This class will allow you to work on your body ease in the air. A warmup on the apparatus, balance work, then exercises and new figures, repeated several times to discover, integrate and appropriate them. At the end of the session, improvisation proposals conclude the course.

 Camille Judic

(Class in french and english )

Aerial classes will focus on many aspects of this apparatus. Preventive exercises for the shoulders will be seen. Basic techniques and tricks will be covered, as well as derivations and variations. All work on the straps will be specific to Camille’s vision of the straps; that is, rigorous work using placement, flexibility and strength will the goal of developing the specific characteristics of each student in the straps.

Class name : Explore – M18

“Level required : Intermediate”

This course is open to all those who practice straps, who want to deepend and consolidate their knowledge and discover new possibilities. Strengthening, specific placements, a different approach for techniques will allow you to discover straps in a specific, singular and original way.

 Class name : Discover – M19

“Level required : Beginner”

This course is open to people who want to try aerial straps. However, it is necessary to regularly practice another aerial discipline or to be in good physical condition.

Class name : Go deeper – M20

“Level required : Advanced”

This class is for people who regularly practice straps and who perfectly master the basic positions and techniques ( meathook, flags…)

Technical work on ballant, wraps…will be approached, then research and exploration with the mastered techniques…

 Vanessa Leprince

 Class name : Explore – M27

“Level required : Technical class for all audiences”

Each workshop begins with a warm-up time through a series of exercises focusing on the multiple sensory levels, the apprehension of space and time. Then, through the learning of choreographic materials, the dancer will be able to refine his or her own perception and find a space of freedom through the quality of the movement and the interpretation of the gesture.

Class name : Create – M28

Workshop for the general public

Then, through the learning of choreographic materials and explorations of different choreographic writing techniques, everyone will be led to develop their own creativity within the group.

Class name : Explore – M29

“Level required : All levels”

Yoga practice offers beautiful opportunity for finding your center – both mentally and physically. Yoga helps in opening up and toning the body, awakening, strengthening and calming one down. It pacifies the mind, supports your energetic potential, harmonizes bodily and energetic systems, and helps in finding clarity and fluidity of movement.

In the yoga sessions we will give the body what it needs after a long day of aerial dancing. Trought exploring some yoga vinyasa sequences, we will work on bringing awareness into movement, so that we create the harmony: fluidity of movement and fluidity of awareness. The focus will be put not only on proper alignment and perception of yoga asanas, but also on the transitions between them.

We will focus on proper, deep breathing. Breathing body is a living body. Through JIN yoga poses ( longer, deep, calm, passive stays) in the second half of the class, we will give ourselves a gift of deep relaxation on the fascial level.

Specifically for us -aerial artists, the body-mind-soul harmony and awareness acquired in yoga helps us to become grounded, centered and radiating performers capable of bringing self-expression to every single mo(ve)ment.

Ellie Skourogianni

Class name : Go deeper – M8

“Level required : Intermediate / Advanced”

During these classes we will work on safely improving our range of motion and learning how to access and use it. Focus will be placed on active flexibility in order to be able and translate that work to our aerial practices. Each class will be focused on a certain area and will be alternating through the week between: backbends & shoulders, front splits, middles splits & hips. Different professions will be available for different levels.

This master class of aerial fabrics will be taught in English and French by internationally renowned teachers

  Danielle Garrison et Ariadna Vendelova

PROGRAM

From Monday 25 to Friday 29 July inclusive, 30 hours of pedagogical training around the discipline, from 9am to 12pm and from 2pm to 5pm, that is to say 6 hours per day of intensive practice.

A restitution is planned at the end of the training on Friday 29th at 6:30 pm at the Landscape Park, the presence of the students is strongly encouraged, the public presentation being an integral part of the training.

9am – 12pm – Ariadna Vendelova – ” Technique and choreographic exploration “

PREREQUISITIES : Very good knowledge of basic aerial silks vocabulary (footlocks, climbs, inversions), basic drops, front and back balance. Ability to comfortably work in the air for at least 3-5 continuous minutes.  The master class workshop will focus on technique work, choreographic methods and research, and on evolution of students´ individual practises. We will explore tools and ideas of composing original sequences and movement phrases on an aerial apparatus, while also bringing deep focus on our technique, the quality of movement execution and on breath work. The workshop will provide space for every student to find new pathways, approaches and ways of thinking about aerial dance, so as to be able to step out of their movement, choreographic and conceptual stereotypes. The workshop will, however, also aim at deepening our already existing knowledge and support our personal practise by finding greater delicacy, sensibility and awareness of what we are already used to do when we move our body and mind, both on the ground and in the air. We will cover these topics :

“Movement precision and fluidity” We will think of aerial dance on silks in terms of „movement“, not in terms of „poses“. This brings a sense of connection and action into the experience, instead of a sense of isolation and statics. Working efficiently and in connection with our breath, avoiding unnecessary moves when passing through transitions or tricks on an apparatus, and by connecting to our neverending internal flow, we will not only find organic quality, clarity and fluidity of movement, i.e. precise technique, but also new methods of organic creativity for our choreographies.

“The Inspiring Spiral” :

The idea of a spiral inspires me greatly. Unlocking the innate potential and connections of our joints, pelvis and spine allows our bodies and minds to enter a broader range of movement pathways and compositions. This approach to movement introduces another layer of understanding of movement trajectories into our aerial dance praxis, that are creatively, intelligently and spiritually inspired by the flow of spiraling energy.

Where does my movement begin and where/when does it end? Which body part leads? Where can I go from here so I support the flow of energy instead of impeding it? How can I create more space in my pelvis and spine, in my shoulders and my hips? How does my body collaborate with the fabric of the silks to allow for a more natural movement?

Working with the concept of spirals when moving on an aerial apparatus or even just on the ground, as well as when creating new choreographic material and sequences is one of the movement-creation methodologies I find deeply interesting and satisfying. I invite you into this research.

“Exploration” : Foot locks, hip locks and waist lock creativity

This part of our masterclass will focus on a more creative, explorative approach to our aerial silks practise and sequencing abilities, working our “aerial intelligence” or the so called “silks brain”. We will establish several climbs, foot locks and hip locks (some more and some less familiar) through which we shall explore the innate nature of these wraps, and see how we can connect one to another seamlessly and naturally. What happens when I transfer my foot lock wrap to my hips, and vice versa? The workshop will also provide space for exploration/research and will aim for every student to find new pathways and to step out of their movement and choreographic stereotypes.

Meridian break

2pm – 5 pm – Danielle Garrisson – ” Sensory Reseach and Innovation “

Merging ideas from dance, circus, interactive art installation, sonic media, body politics, queer theory, performance art, ritual, improvisation, and somatic awareness: we will wake up our ignored senses. This experimental fabric workshop unearths a non-conventional approach to aerial work through a peculiar, sensational lens, and artsy journey of fabric configurations, including vertical, knotted and horizontal (non-rigged) in an ever-evolving environmental structure. Beginning with a warm-up that calls a noticing of our habits, we can shift to new movement and creative desires by exploring sensuality. Rather than dominating the fabrics with aesthetic intention, how can our bodies become responsive to the synthetic touch of the fabrics and conduit another’s movement? The material will explore a deep dive into the play within suspension, listening, and how to connect your energy with the apparatus, fellow artists and the space, permitting a resonant continuity between each element.

.

 For whom?

This master class is designed for intermediate and advanced students who wish to deepen their knowledge of aerial fabrics during a week.

Each course is a module in our continuing professional education program, from initial training to lifelong skill development.
